About us

Mission Statement

The Institute of Biogeochemistry and Pollutant Dynamics (IBP) develops the interdisciplinary science to understand the environmental consequences of greenhouse gas emissions, nutrient loads and accelerated cycles of metals and organic substances. Molecular-scale insights from physics, chemistry and microbiology are required to assess and predict the distribution, transformation and effects of anthropogenic compounds.

Institutional Framework

IBP is part of the Department of Environmental Systems Science (D-USYS) of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETH Zurich). Members of the institute participate actively in the Competence Center Environment and Sustainability (CCES).

Several research groups are located at the Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Sciences (Eawag).

Address

Our Institute is in building CHN at the main campus of ETH Zurich on Universitätstrasse 16, 8092 Zurich. Contact and how to find us

History

IBP was founded by 1st of July 2006 by former members of the Institute of Terrestrial Ecology (ITÖ) and the Institute of Aquatic Sciences (IGW) at ETH Zurich.
